The Santiago Canyon College men's soccer team opened its 2025 season on the road Thursday night, battling the East Los Angeles Huskies to a 1-1 draw under the lights.
The Hawks fell behind early after conceding a goal in the 11th minute but showed resilience, rallying late to secure the tie.
In a physical contest that featured 20 fouls and five yellow cards, Santiago Canyon struggled to create chances in the first half, managing just three shots. The momentum shifted after halftime, however, as the Hawks fired off six attempts to spark their attack.
The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when freshman Manuel Cervantes buried a high strike past the outstretched East LA goalkeeper to even the match.
Freshman Abraham Garcia paced the Hawks with three shots, while fellow freshman Brian Oberlin added two.
In goal, sophomore Diego Saldivar played 81 minutes and recorded three saves before giving way to freshman Jesus Adono, who closed out the final seven minutes.
