After a winless September, the Santiago Canyon College men's soccer team bounced back in style, earning a 2-1 victory over Orange Coast College in conference play on Friday. Freshman Abraham Garcia powered the Hawks with two goals, lifting them past the Pirates for their first win in three years against the program.
Orange Coast struck first in the 15th minute, but the Hawks held firm defensively to keep it a one-goal match at halftime. SCC's persistence paid off in the 54th minute when Garcia delivered the equalizer. He wasn't done, striking again in the 83rd minute to seal the comeback victory.
The result marked the Hawks' first win over the Pirates since October 2022, when Bryce Allen ('22) netted the lone goal in a 1-0 decision.
Despite being outshot 12-5, the Hawks leaned on sophomore goalkeeper Diego Saldivar, who was stellar with six saves across the full 90 minutes.
Garcia led SCC with two shots on goal, while sophomores Sam Everakes and Braydon Cerminelli, along with freshman Miguel Carrillo, each added an attempt.
