Sophomore goalkeeper Diego Saldivar was a brick wall on Tuesday afternoon in a conference showdown against the Fullerton College Hornets. Riding the momentum of a come-from-behind win over Orange Coast last Friday, the Hawks leaned heavily on Saldivar's brilliance in goal to earn a scoreless draw.
Saldivar delivered a career-high 13 saves in a stellar performance, many of which required acrobatic efforts as he spent much of the match airborne and fully extended.
With this performance, Saldivar solidified his position as the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) leader in saves, now totaling 50 on the season. He recorded five saves in the first half and eight in the second, including three crucial stops in the final 10 minutes. His most impressive came in extra time, when he made a diving save toward the near post.
Fullerton applied constant pressure, firing 20 shots with 13 on target. In contrast, the Hawks managed just four shots on goal—three of which came in the opening half. Freshman Abraham Garcia led the offensive efforts with three shots, while fellow freshman Brian Oberlin added one attempt.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, October 10 as they hit the road to face off against crosstown rival Santa Ana at 3 p.m.
