The Santiago Canyon College men's volleyball team opened its 2026 season Wednesday night against the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros on its home court. The Hawks showcased a revamped offense with multiple scoring threats, signaling a promising season ahead.
Seven different Hawks recorded at least one kill, but the offense was led by a two-headed attack from freshman tandem Jake Frame and Brayden Payne. Frame paced the team with 18 kills while adding 12 digs and three blocks. He posted a .270 hitting percentage and recorded one service ace. Payne was equally efficient, tallying 12 kills on 24 attempts for a .375 hitting percentage.
Freshmen Logan Campbell and Rodolfo Marrero-Ramos each contributed five kills on the night. The pair anchored the net defensively, combining for five blocks. Marrero-Ramos also added two assists and one dig.
The offense was orchestrated by freshman setters David Martinez and Roen Forbes. Martinez served as the primary facilitator, leading the team with 20 assists, while Forbes added 18 assists. Martinez was also strong defensively with a team-high 11 digs, and Forbes contributed three digs.
Freshman Logan Gaines chipped in two kills and made his presence felt at the net, leading the Hawks with four blocks and adding one service ace.
