Hats Off to Women's Soccer
On Wednesday, April 21st our Women's Soccer team met up with 'Happy Hats by Helping Hands' to make headwear for children about to go in to surgery.
The team, in conjunction with Happy Hats founder Mary Clements, created cotton hats for children about to go in to surgery at Long Beach Memorial hospital. Long Beach Memorial conducts 450 children's surgeries per month, and instead of the usual plain turquoise headwear, each child has the option to choose a 'Happy Hat'. The players cut cloth and elastic, sowed the hem, and then inserted and sowed the elastic to complete each garment. Not only did this activity create the opportunity to put a smile on the face of a child before surgery, there were also plenty of smiles from the team in the process. Many thanks to Mary for the opportunity to help and for sharing her expertise.
