The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team opened its 2025 season on the road Tuesday, battling the Southwestern College Jaguars to a 1-1 draw in Chula Vista, CA.
The Hawks struck first in the opening 15 minutes but were unable to hold off the Jaguars, who equalized in the second half.
Looking to avenge last year's early season matchup with Southwestern, the Hawks wasted no time generating offense. They finished with 12 total shots on the night, including an early attempt from freshman Sienna Escutia that missed just wide.
Seven minutes later, freshman Christian Cosenza broke through with the team's first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Ayleen Jimenez.
Despite several more opportunities, the Hawks were unable to capitalize on their remaining 10 shots. Sophomore Rayleen Chairez led the team with three attempts, while freshmen Lauren Wood and freshman Kristina Grimm each added two.
In goal, sophomore Michayla Worcester and freshman Ayden Keysers split time between the posts. Worcester, who was credited with the tie, tallied three saves, while Keysers recorded one.
The Hawks (0-0-1) return to action Friday, August 29, when they host the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines (1-1-0) for Community Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
