Sophomore forward Mia Lussier made an immediate impact in Santiago Canyon College's home opener Friday night against San Bernardino Valley College, recording a hat trick to lead the Hawks to a commanding 6–1 victory.
After a quiet opening 25 minutes, Lussier broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, finishing off a pass from sophomore Ayleen Jimenez. Just four minutes later, she doubled the lead, this time assisted by freshman Sienna Escutia, giving the Hawks a quick 2–0 advantage.
The Hawks carried that cushion into halftime and extended it early in the second half when freshman Kristian Grimm scored in the 53rd minute, with Jimenez providing her second assist of the night.
The Wolverines pulled one back in the 60th minute, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed. Lussier completed her hat trick in the 75th minute, restoring the Hawks' comfortable lead.
Lussier's momentum carried over to her teammates, as freshman Christina Cosenza added two late goals in the 79th and 87th minutes. Grimm assisted on the first, while sophomore Rayleen Chairez set up the second to cap the six-goal performance.
In goal, sophomore Mikayla Worcester (1-0-1) earned the win, keeping the Wolverines scoreless through the first half and recording one diving save. Freshman Ayden Keysers closed out the match, allowing one goal while also collecting a save.
Defensively, the Hawks were dominant, limiting SBVC to just four total shots. Sophomore Karen Pedraza anchored the back line, consistently shutting down attacks on her side of the field.
