For Santiago Canyon, Tuesday night felt less like a soccer game and more like the Fourth of July.
Whether it was Katy Perry's "Firework" setting the pregame vibe or the four unanswered goals that lit up the scoreboard, the Hawks put on a show in their non-conference finale, cruising past Cerritos for their fourth-straight win.
Freshman Lanah Rodriguez set the tone in the 39th minute, uncorking a long-range missile that left the Falcons keeper frozen. Freshman Addison Vallero earned the assist, and SCC carried a 1–0 lead into halftime.
The sophomore duo of Mia Lussier and Ayleen Jimenez kept the sparks flying early in the second half. Lussier whipped a dangerous ball into the box, where Jimenez smashed home a no-doubt strike to double the lead.
Not to be left out, freshman Lexi Kotlar joined the party with a 68th-minute finish, and Rodriguez later threaded a perfect pass to Christina Cosenza, who buried it in the top corner for the 4–0 exclamation point.
The Hawks didn't just win—they dominated. Outshooting Cerritos 25–1, SCC peppered the net all evening, with nearly half their attempts forcing the keeper into action.
Between the posts, sophomore Mikayla Worcester (5-0-2) stayed unbeaten, needing just one save in a calm 90 minutes. Off the bench, freshman spark plug Lauren Tindukasiri led the team with four shots in 67 minutes of play, while Noelle Zuvic, Rayleen Chairez, and Jimenez each chipped in three.
SCC now heads into conference play undefeated, carrying momentum—and maybe a few leftover fireworks—into their Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opener against Cypress on the road on Tuesday, September 30 at 3 p.m.
