The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team opened conference play on Tuesday night with a strong 3-1 road victory over the always-tough Cypress College Chargers, keeping their undefeated record intact.
The Hawks struck first in the 13th minute when freshman Addison Vallero netted a goal off an assist from fellow freshman Noelle Zuvic. Cypress later equalized after an SCC own goal, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
SCC regrouped after the break and reclaimed the lead as Vallero set up sophomore Raylenn Chairez for a decisive finish. The Hawks then sealed the win in the 76th minute when freshman Lauren Tindukasiri scored her first career goal, assisted by freshman Christina Cosenza.
The Hawks used a goalkeeper-by-committee approach, with sophomore Mikayla Worcester starting and allowing the lone goal credited to Cypress, while freshman Ayden Keyser closed out the match and recorded one save.
Both sides were evenly matched statistically, each tallying 10 shots. Cypress generated nine of theirs in the second half, while SCC came out firing with seven attempts in the first half. Sophomore Mia Lussier led the Hawks with three shots, while Chairez added two.
