The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team continued their dominance in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play with a commanding 4-1 home victory over crosstown rival Santa Ana on Friday afternoon. The Hawks leaned on three different goal scorers to extend their winning streak to nine games.
Remaining undefeated in conference action (4-0), the Hawks showcased their skill with exceptional ball control and time of possession, keeping the Dons on their heels throughout the match.
Sophomore Ayleen Jimenez opened the scoring in the 26th minute, launching a stunning left-footed shot from 40 yards out off a clever pass from freshman Lauren Wood. The ball arched perfectly into the bottom right corner of the net.
Just four minutes later, freshman Christine Cosenza doubled the lead after receiving a precise pass from fellow freshman Lanah Rodriguez and finishing confidently.
Santa Ana briefly narrowed the gap to 2-1 with a header off a corner kick, but the Hawks responded quickly. In the 41st minute, sophomore Beatriz Perez delivered a corner that found Rayleen Chairez, whose header hit the crossbar. Sophomore Clarissa Huerta was in position to finish the rebound with a header of her own, pushing the lead to 3-1 before halftime.
Cosenza added her second goal in the second half, dribbling through defenders with help from freshman Melanie Salazar, who provided the assist to seal the 4-1 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Ayden Keysers (1-0-0) earned her first start, playing the full match and recording her first collegiate win with one save.
