Hawks Sweep Santa Ana in Conference Series
The Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team completed a season sweep of district rival Santa Ana College with a 75–70 victory on their home court Friday night.
After dropping two of their last three games, the Hawks rebounded with a strong defensive performance and timely shooting to return to the win column. Santiago Canyon controlled the tempo in the first half with efficient offense, then relied on tough defense down the stretch to hold off a determined Dons squad. Despite scoring a season-low 29 points in the second half, the Hawks' defensive presence proved decisive.
Santiago Canyon shot 36.4 percent from the field, including 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Hawks were nearly perfect at the free-throw line, converting just under 80 percent of their attempts. They also generated 14 second-chance points and scored 16 points in the paint.
Freshman Dominic Bolton led all scorers with 20 points, matching his career high. Bolton has now reached double figures in three of the last five games and 12 times this season. He also contributed two blocks and two rebounds.
Sophomore Ryan Weber followed with 19 points, doing most of his damage inside the paint. He finished 8-for-19 from the floor while adding five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Freshman Jayden Oei was the other Hawk in double figures, scoring 16 points in a key supporting role.
Freshman guard Paris Lassiter narrowly missed a triple-double after recording back-to-back double-doubles in the Hawks two previous games. He finished with 13 rebounds to go along with nine points and eight assists.
