Women’s Volleyball Falls to Rustlers in Straight Sets
The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball team continued Orange Empire Conference action Friday night, hosting the Golden West College Rustlers. Despite a determined effort and competitive play in each set, the Hawks ultimately fell in straight sets.
Sophomore Ashlyn Smith once again led the offensive charge, posting nine kills on 28 attempts and averaging 5.5 points per set. She added eight digs, a solo block, and a block assist to round out a strong all-around performance.
On the defensive end, sophomore Liean Navarro anchored the back row with a season-high 14 digs against a high-powered Rustler attack. She also chipped in three kills. Fellow sophomore Jayden Sessom contributed 10 digs and added a kill of her own.
Freshman Amy Lewis served as the team's primary facilitator, dishing out 17 assists and recording a service ace. Sophomore Riley Bingel added five kills to the offensive effort, while freshman Yulianna Ruiz tallied five digs, a block assist, and an ace.
While the Hawks were unable to secure a set, their ability to consistently score above 15 points in each frame is a promising sign as they continue through the heart of conference play.
